Early Scottish Dirk

5 star rating2 ReviewsCirca 1550This style dirk is a direct descendant of the medieval ballock dagger. The grip form began to change, probably sometime in the late 16th century, but soon developed a form that was purely Scottish. The blade was long and single-edged. Made to use alone, with a shield and sword, or just with a basket-hilt claymore. We have replicated an early version of the dirk. The hardwood handle is carved with a chevron style pattern copied from an original of the same time period. For those with a serious interest in the Highlands, this is a must for any collection. The longsword was a central weapon of the Science of Defence and an indispensable part of the chivalric art of arms for centuries. This sword is no exception. A beautifully proportioned weapon with dynamic handling qualities, it is a harmony of mass and dimension. With a long, semi-tapered diamond cross-section fitted to a round ergonomic pommel on a double-handed grip, this is a fine example of the perfection that was achieved in this popular design. With a slim handle that virtually begs to be gripped in the diverse and effective winding actions that this kind of sword ideally allowed, it features a surprisingly small heft for its size. This ebony-toned “queen of weapons” is perfectly suited to foot-combat in war, judicial duel, or knightly challenge. This is a substantial and graceful weapon that will leave the wielder every confidence it could readily defend life if called upon. Single-Edged Arming Sword
#501835
Royal Armouries Sword IX.2638. A single-edged arming sword of the mid-15th century, reputedly to come from the site of the Battle of Castillion, near the River Garrone (France) in 1453 and purchased by the Royal Armouries in 1984. A group of over 80 swords is said to have been recovered from the same spot.The sword has a single-edged blade, of wedge cross-section, having a false edge on the back of the blade near the tip. The blade is remarkably wide and thin, with a very acute edge geometry leading to a fine edge. The crossguard quillons end in curled tips to retain an opponent’s blade, the asymmetrical grip is located towards the back edge, and the squat scent stopper pommel makes the short grip comfortable to hold. This sword feels very nimble, and it is deceptively light compared to its width, due to the thinness of the blade and distal taper.
This replica is crafted with a hand-forged blade by an experienced, skilled blacksmith using modern 1080 high-carbon steel that is fully tempered and is distally tapered for proper weight distribution. The sheath is made with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features ornate cut-outs and an acorn tip. Battlecry Agincourt War Sword
#501506
Filling an under-served niche in available swords today, the Agincourt hand-and-half sword from Windlass Steelcrafts Battlecry collection is a slender, light, quick weapon well-suited to facing armored or unarmored adversaries. This is an agile weapon whose length and weight make it highly effective on its own in either one or two-handed fighting. But it’s equally dangerous when paired with a buckler or even a larger shield. Combining versatility with utility, the dexterity, and lightness of the Agincourt betray a dangerous fighting blade of respected martial utility. With a 1065 high carbon steel blued patina, it’s well protected from the frequent rust spots and stains that occur so often from everyday practice and exposure to the elements. The battle-hardened finish had an extra-wide tang and is tempering to a low 50s RC. This pre-sharpened blade has gone through rigorous testing. The hands-on nature of the manufacturing by master smiths makes this line unique.Includes a leather frog and matching scabbard with belt stop, and certificate of authenticity signed by each smith that touched your blade through every step of the forging process. One could easily envision English long-bowmen and knights alike wielding this blackened blade on the fields of the famous and disastrous battle honored in the naming of this sword.
The term hand-and-a-half is more of a modern designation for a range of sword types that featured tapered blades longer than the common shorter arming swords of the time but without the double-hand grips of larger heavier war swords. Many different swords fall into this category and many of them are as maneuverable as they are surprisingly sturdy. In full armor, a heavy sword is no advantage and a narrow point on a slimmer blade is ideal for getting into the vulnerable spots on another armored combatant. At the same time, the advantage of having a faster weapon with an extended grip that could still be adroitly handled with both hands provided knights and men-at-arms alike with a resourceful option. A sword like this also deftly employs the blade-gripping techniques called half-swording that make up such a large part of the authentic fighting methods.

15th Century Longsword
#501831
Royal Armouries Sword #IX.16. This is a reproduction of an early 15th-century knightly longsword, believed to have been found in the River Thames before finding its way into the Tower of London collection. Part of the Royal Armouries Collection by Windlass, the original dates to around 1400-1430. This is a hand-and-a-half sword. The stiff and acutely-tapered blade ends in a robust but slender point. This type of sword was used in one or two hands, depending on circumstance, and in armored combat, the blade could also be gripped in half swording, to better drive the point into the gaps of an armored opponent, and also to use the crossguard and pommel for wrestling and striking. This is the type of sword that English knights would have carried at the Battle of Agincourt. The blade of this sword has three transitions, from a hollow ground blunt ricasso next to the guard to a hexagonal cross-section, and finally to the flattened diamond section point. A relatively nimble sword, but with more blade presence than you might expect.This replica is crafted with a hand-forged blade by a skilled blacksmith using modern 1080 high-carbon steel that is fully tempered and distally tapered for proper weight distribution.
The sheath is made with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features a traditional cut-out. At the throat, the leather extends upward and covers part of the guard at the ricasso. Includes a certificate of authenticity on heavy stock and a polishing cloth. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be seen in the Royal Armories Collection, Object Number IX.16.

Royal Armouries Sword IX.1106. Part of the Royal Armouries Collection by Windlass, the original is a mid-to-late 14th-century hand-and-half sword found in Lake Constance, where Austria, Germany, and Switzerland meet. This sword features a stiff tapered blade, which is double-edged and straight, with an acute tip. It has a hand-and-a-half hilt, which could be used one or two-handed, and a wheel pommel. The blade is of a simple flatted diamond cross-section, but the pommel has some complex and subtle shaping, with the front and back planes uniquely canted inward at the top.This type of sword may have been used by armored men-at-arms and knights, usually one-handed on horseback or two-handed on foot. Swords like this were used in Europe in the second half of the 14th century and would likely have been familiar to fencing masters like Fiore dei Liberi and used at battles like Sempach in 1386. This sword seems quite specialized for armored combat and half-swording (gripping the blade with one hand), due to the notable stiffness and mass of the blade. The edge geometry is quite obtuse, but the blade has a lot of presence in the strike. Equally, the weighty pommel could be used with good effect to strike in close combat.
This replica is crafted with hand forged blade by a skilled blacksmith using modern 1080 high-carbon steel that is fully tempered and distally tapered for proper weight distribution. The sheath is made with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features a traditional cut-out. At the throat, the leather extends upward and covers part of the guard at the ricasso. Includes a certificate of authenticity on heavy stock and a polishing cloth. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be seen in the Royal Armories Collection, Object Number IX.1106.

According to Ewart Oakeshott. "Records of the Medieval Sword", page 151;
An identical one is shown on two early 14th century effigies in Germany. (i), of Arnold I Langraph of Cleve, + 1320 in Stiftskirche at Cleve, and (ii), of one of the hero-figures, c. 1308, in the Rathaus at Cologne. Not only are the hilts of the swords on these figures exactly the same as this sword, but the size is too, more proof (if any more is needed, which it shouldn't be) that these short swords were not made for boys, archers, etc., but for knights and in this case, great nobles.
The blade of this sword is hand forged from 5160 carbon steel and hand tempered. The blade is then securely peened at pommel. The handle is wood wrapped in black leather. Sword also includes a wood scabbard wrapped in black leather with steel accents at throat and tip.d them into giving false confessions before being burned at the stake. Legacy Arms Templar Knight Sword
#501860
Knights Templar or the Order of the Temple (French: Ordre du Temple or Templiers), were among the most famous of the Western Christian military orders. The organization existed for approximately two centuries in the Middle Ages. It was founded in the aftermath of the First Crusade of 1096, to ensure the safety of the many Europeans who made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem after its conquest. Officially endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church in 1129, the Order became a favored charity across Europe and grew rapidly in membership and power. Templar knights in their distinctive white mantles with red cross were among the best fighting units of the Crusades. Non-combatant members of the Order managed a large economic infrastructure throughout Christendom, inventing or adapting many financial techniques that were an early form of banking, and building many fortifications across Europe and the Holy Land. The Templars' success was tied closely to the Crusades; when the Crusaders suffered defeat and lost the Holy Land, support for the Order faded. Rumors about the Templars' secret initiation ceremony created mistrust, and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, began pressuring Pope Clement V to take action. In 1307, King Philip had many of the Order's members in France arrested and tortured them into giving false confessions before being burned at the stake. In 1312, Pope Clement V, under continuing pressure from King Philip, disbanded the Order. The abrupt disappearance of a major part of the European infrastructure gave rise to speculation and legends, which have kept the "Templar" name alive until the present.
