Standard issue to guards during this penitentiary's heyday, it includes a solid brass, functional whistle, iron key with chain and a brass tag which reads UNITED STATES PENITENTIARY ALCATRAZ ISLAND. No weapons were allowed on the floor of the Alcatraz cellhouse, so officers carried whistles to summon help in case of trouble. Whistle blasts also woke prisoners each morning, directed inmates to come to attention, start moving and stop work. An amazing collectible and conversation piece.
