Mary Read Ladies Pirate Coat

Englishwoman Mary Read is remembered for two things: as a woman who disguised and lived as a man most of her life and for her career as a fearsome pirate. She and Anne Bonny were pirates under Captain Jack Rackham, also known as Calico Jack. Most of the crew were unaware that there were women aboard. They challenged the sailors’ adage that a woman’s presence on shipboard invites bad luck.
