OVERVIEW
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was one of the greatest military leaders in history and emperor of France. He won numerous wars to conquer much of Europe and was finally defeated in the Battle of Waterloo, his last fight. In the painting "Bonaparte Crossing the Great St. Bernard Pass", the gesture left no doubt as to the will of the commander to arrive at his goal. It depicts Napoleon astride a rearing horse, his gloveless hand pointing to the unseen summit. It did not indicate the summit but showed the observer the certainty of victory and orders his soldiers to follow. Cold Cast Bronze.
