OVERVIEW

Handcrafted in a small town nestled in the Longquan mountains of China’s Zhejiang province, where the tradition of skilled swordmaking began over 2,000 years ago. Every part of this sword is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods.

The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and differentially clay-tempered using traditional methods, with the spine Rockwelling in the 45-48 HRC range and the harder cutting edge at 56-58 HRC. This ancient tempering method creates the hamon - the hard visible line left when the clay is removed. Each blade is honed and must be able to cleanly cut through a sheet of paper before it leaves the factory.

The tsuba and pommel feature the Pheasant, the ancient Japanese symbol of harmony and the national bird of modern Japan. The tsuba, pommel and the fuchigashira (the collar next to the tsuba) are made of brass and given an aged finish.

The grip is genuine Rayskin wrapped with cord, and the wood scabbard is painted matte black with glossy “raindrops”. Includes cotton storage bag. Also includes cleaning and care kit.
